Still, according to many sources, Ethiopia is the most ancient origin of coffee. You cannot believe that coffee is the most promising agent to increase the concentration used in the 16th century. It is consumed mainly by the local tribe, which helps them remain awake for long hunts. Social revolution in Britain in the 17th century is also a part of coffee history.

Initially, it is limited to some wealthy families and army pupils, but later it gets used by the local community. Who Invented Coffee?

Despite many conflicts and various tales, there are no shreds of evidence for the existence of coffee before the 15th century. According to the story written in 1671, coffee was first discovered by a Goat, Herder Kaldi of Ethiopia, in the 9th century.

Kaldi observes his goat’s energetic behavior after chewing the red cherry-like fruit of coffee. Then he informed the local monks of the church, and they denied the real stuff and threw the berries in the fire, which afterward released a fragrance. Legends then roast the beans, powdered them, and put them in hot water and taste it and feel the same energy. In this way, the 1st cup of coffee was discovered.

Apart from its use as a high stimulant, it also serves as an inborn plant pesticide, protecting the coffee fruit from insects. You must have heard about the word Qahwah a romantic word for wine which is the ancestral word for coffee. This qahwah or kahwah is Turkish kehvat, dutch koffie, and finally, coffee in English. The first historical evidence of coffee drinking and traces of practice was found in the Sufi monasteries of Yamen.

Where Did Coffee Originated

Coffee is grown in different regions worldwide. But its original heritage is from the ancient coffee forests on the Ethiopia Plateau. Though it originated from Ethiopia, it spread in the middle east by the 16th century.

How Coffee Was Made

So simple, take a spoonful of coffee powder in a cup, pour hot water on it, mix it and have it with either chocolate, ice cream, milk, etc., is it? No!

Making coffee powder is a tedious journey, from selecting proper coffee beans to their flavor. Coffee was made from the beans of coffee; these beans were get separated from the pulp of the fruit. Initially, the berries of coffee are kept under the sun and left for fermentation. After some days, the fruit’s pulp gets removed, and the beans get removed. This is the natural processing followed till today called as dry processing.

In some cases, separated beans that were green in color are again put for the naturally drying under sunlight, and it changes color from greenish to brown shade. Very sharp and keen observation skills are required to select the perfect ready beans. This perfection is most important for coffee quality and has a huge impact on the final taste.

Where Does Coffee Beans Come From

Shortly, coffee beans have come from the coffee plant

A bush-like plant that can grow tall up to too many feet. But traditional and knowledgeable coffee farmers know the importance of trimming plants’ height. Hence the coffee plants were always trimmed to around five feet to keep them manageable and healthy. The plant grows with bunches of cherry-like fruits that possess coffee beans inside. The average life span of one coffee plant is around 30 – 40 years, but it’s extendable and depends on care.

On average, 1 year is sufficient for a coffee plant to produce fragrance, white flowers. Then after around 4 years plant begins to bear coffee fruit. And it takes approximately 10 years to produce coffee beans on a commercial level, which are most valuable for the farmer.

In Which Form Coffee First Grown

Coffee is first grown in the form of juicy, pulpy, red berry-like fruit, which centrally possesses a coffee seed. Coffee Arabica was known as a coffee shrub of arabica or mountain coffee among several species. This species is known to be the 1st species cultivated and grown in southwest arabica for over 1000 years.

Coffee Country of Origin

The region of southwest Ethiopia called Kaffa is where the coffee was first discovered. After the transport and some development, these beans were grown in many countries worldwide. Currently, Brazil is the most coffee-growing country. While Indonesia is famous for its most expensive form of coffee species growth, Kopi Luwak. The expensiveness of the coffee is due to its unique method of production.

Most expensive kopi luwak coffee beans are plucked from the most disgusting thing from the civets’ faces. These beans are the partially digested cherries of coffee excreted by the civet cats or, more likely, civet mongooses. India is also producing this coffee on a small scale.

How Long Has Coffee Been Around

Historically, credible evidence of the coffee drinking or knowledge of the coffee tree appeared in the middle of the 15th century in the accounts of Ahmed al Ghaftar in Yamen. The evidence claim it was in Arabic that coffee is made in a similar way it is used made today. The evidence shows around 1000 years back, but we can verify its existence back only up to 500 years. Many Islamic saints mentioned the uses of coffee during their prayers in ancient days.

When Was Coffee Introduced in Europe

The coffee journey in Europe from the ‘bitter invention of Satan to the delicious Bijela kava that is Caffe Latte’ was fascinating. Coffee entered Europe during the 17th century and became popular across the continent. In the initial days, coffee was called the bitter invention of Satan in Europe. However, as increasing days coffee itself established its way firmly in the culture of Europe. This is because people get attracted to its taste and its effect of increasing alertness. Increased alertness in mind increases people’s engagement in a more productive and stimulating conversation.

Coffee was first introduced in Hungary of Europe when the Turks destroyed Hungary in 1526. It gets spread in nearby areas by the Muslim Turkish slaves in Malta. Coffee consumption was so prominent in Turkey in the early modern era.

Generally, people prefer to drink a large amount of wine and beer before entry of coffee in Europe. But the entry of coffee is prone to replace these drinks with coffee, resulting in improved quality of work and health of alcohol drinkers. As a result, around 300 plus coffee shops were established during the mid-17th century in Europe, increasing economic status.
